Uh, badly? The Indy was basically the last print outlet you could go to for critique of corporate journalism in western Montana. Not sure how that will play out now.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I love the Independent, I remember when it started and hate to see it incorporated in to Lee.

Lee and USA Today basically own every paper in Montana now, with a handful of holdouts. I don’t blame Matt Gibson for taking the big payday, but it’s not a great outcome for journalism here. I try not to be nostalgic about it - no paper lasts forever - but at this particular point right now it’s not a good look. Apparently the staff didn’t know until this morning:
